Move over MotoGP regulars, there's a pianist coming through… and about time, too!

At last we have something to discuss other than the inevitability of Casey Stoner, the charm of Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa's mood swings. Better still, we have a Brit setting the bike world alight, and better again, he's not alone! James Toseland launched his MotoGP season and career from the front row of the grid in Qatar to take a highly creditable sixth place. The Yorkshireman battled admirably but was blasted on the straights, where his Yamaha clearly lacked horsepower.

His performance left fans desperate for the arrival of a pneumatic-valve engine that the factory has promised by the fourth round at Le Mans, if not by Estoril. The prospect of JT on a faster bike is mouthwatering: he ruffled reigning 250cc World Champion Jorge Lorenzo's feathers as he almost swapped bikes with the Spaniard when overtaking him early on in Qatar.
