It's the British MotoGP round at Donington Park tomorrow, and the home crowd will cheer many British-based teams, British resident riders and even some British technology. What we won't see is a British rider winning, let alone a British World Champion - it's been 30 years since the last, the late and very great Barry Sheene.
What are we doing wrong? Certainly the competition from Spain and Italy is immense, but that's always been the way. What we should also see is how the MotoGP teams look at the direct 125cc and 250cc feeder classes for their new talent. After all, these classes have supplied them with Rossi, Capirossi, Stoner, Melandri, Pedrosa and many more. Our own riders tend to head into superbikes, and the step from there to MotoGP can be a difficult one.
