It's all a question of tyres as the circus hits Malaysia tomorrow

Tomorrow at Sepang in Malaysia, the penultimate MotoGP round of 2007 takes place, and at this stage I'm getting an idea of how F1 journalists must feel in a typical season. Casey Stoner will win, Rossi and Pedrosa will battle for the next two podium steps, and Nicky Hayden, too, if his run of terrible luck finally peters out. Capirossi could also well be there. The championship is done, and Ducati has also taken the team and manufacturer titles. Meanwhile F1 is bursting with excitement at how Mr Hamilton will do, although there's great consolation in knowing the bike racing always has the potential to be by far the most exciting spectacle, title fight or not.

We have some interesting politics to be decided, too. The decision on whether MotoGP will run on control tyres next season will be announced at midday today, although I'm convinced it won't happen. All along I've believed it was a ruse by the MotoGP commercial rights holder, Dorna to get some meaningful action from the teams and tyre boys. Dorna doesn't want it, Bridgestone wants to remain with the factory teams it already supplies as it doesn't want to upset the balance, and I'm sure the Japanese factory rather enjoys beating the seven-times champ Rossi.
