I'm sure you'll understand if I'm grinning inanely during tomorrow's BBC broadcast from the MotoGP round at Sachsenring, Germany - my nerves are tingling even now in anticipation of the race, and by the time I'm there in that electric atmosphere my heart will be racing as fast as those awesome bikes.
Don't misunderstand me, it's not the fact that it's Germany in particular that's thrilling me. It's simply that I can't wait to see this, the 10th instalment on the MotoGP calendar. I'm not fussy: if it's a re-enactment of last year's Sachsenring epic that'll do just fine. In the 2006 race a mere three-tenths of a second separated the top four as Valentino Rossi just snatched victory by the skin of his leathers. Or something resembling the Dutch TT from two weeks ago would be just as likely to send me into hyperspace. That was motorsport at its best: the pure genius of Rossi starting 11th on the grid then coming through to grab victory and Nicky Hayden buffing his tarnished silverware to come from 13th on the grid and earn a well-deserved podium. Sheer delight.
