I was born at an RAF hospital in Shropshire and spent my childhood growing up in Wolverhampton. I had a wonderful time and developed a treasured book of happy memories. I have a mom, dad and an older brother called Stu. Our house looked as though it should adorn the cover of a box of chocolates and my parents still reside there today. It is my favourite place to go and relax and I visit regularly, often tying in a trip to the Molineux!
I’m a huge Wolves fan, always have been since I was little. Emlyn Hughes used to lodge at a house in my road when I was growing up; I thought it was so cool! My Granddad once had a trial to play for Wolves but his dad wouldn’t allow him to play as it took him away from his butchers business on a Saturday, imagine that!
At school I loved sport, art and drama. I had a part time job at the Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton as a lighting technician where I experienced many crazy moments as you can imagine! At college I studied business and finance, but returned to original passions in my 20’s. At 22 I went to Japan to fulfil a modelling contract, I ended up spending about 12 months in Osaka and Tokyo, then shortly after my return, I moved to London where I worked as an advertising model for a few years before getting a break in TV at Sky Sports as a pit lane reporter. That was in 1997, I haven’t looked back since!
My father was a promoter and music agent and despite being known for sport, music is actually my first love. I am fond of a whole array of tunes. My dad looked after a rock band called Trapeze whom I loved but I’m also a fan of other fields of music. I have a huge soft spot for guitar based singer songwriters like John Mayer and Jack Johnson and female talents like Sarah McLachlan. My ipod menu includes back catalogues from Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers, The Bee Gees, Earth Wind and Fire, The Staple singers, Jackson 5, Abba Kylie, The Verve, Maroon 5, The Jam, Aretha Franklyn, Elvis, Coldplay, Bebel Gilberto, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Glen Campbell, E.L.O….. So as you can see, quite an eclectic mix really! I love the way that music can transport you instantly to another place or moment, it can stir vibrant images and evoke powerful emotion, I always have music around me.
I’m often asked “what do you do in your spare time?” and the simple answer would be that I travel. I’m very inquisitive and love to visit new destinations. The problem with working and travelling is that you rarely get the chance to see any sights as time is always so tight. But I’m also a home bod. I love cooking and entertaining and have designed my house, specifically for that purpose. It took me and my lovely friend Michael the best part of two years to complete, but it was worth it. I adore my house. When I close the door, I feel relaxed.
